Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1641072 Size: SH
  1. Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .
  2. Remove the ignition coil . Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement .
  3. Remove the ignition coil bracket studs.
  4. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube from the air cleaner outlet duct.
  5. Remove the PCV fresh air tube from the rocker cover.

    6. Object Number: 61834 Size: SH

    Important: Valve rocker arm cover gasket and sealant must be carefully trimmed away from the lower intake manifold gasket. Failure to do so will damage the lower intake manifold gasket, causing a severe oil leak.

  6. Loosen the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    7. Important: When removing the valve rocker arm cover, ensure the gasket stays in place attached to the cylinder head.

  7. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.

    8. Bump the end of the valve rocker cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet if the cover adheres to the cylinder head.

  8. Trim the valve gasket and sealant away from the lower intake manifold gasket at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joints (1).
  9. Remove the valve cover gasket.
  10. Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head with degreaser.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 190588 Size: SH
  1. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joints (1). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.

    2. Object Number: 61834 Size: SH
  2. Install a new gasket to the valve rocker arm cover. Ensure that the gasket is properly seated in the groove of the valve rocker arm cover.
  3. Install the right valve rocker arm cover.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Use an alternating criss-cross pattern when tightening the valve rocker cover bolts. Failure to do so may result in oil leakage from the valve cover due to improper seating of the gasket.

  4. Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the PCV fresh air tube to the rocker cover.
  6. Install the PCV fresh air tube to the air cleaner outlet duct.
  7. Install the ignition coil bracket studs.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the studs to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the ignition coil . Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement .
  9. Install the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .
