In several warranty parts reviews, side door glass was observed with a chip on the top inboard or outboard side of the laminated glass. Dealer contacts confirmed that they use a key lock box on the front door glass. In some cases, all four doors have acoustic
laminate glass and another method of key storage must be sought.
A random selection of door glass returns will be conducted to confirm adherence. If a door glass is discovered with a chip in the location previously mentioned, the door glass will be returned to the dealership for debit. The illustration below shows a
laminate glass. The difference can be seen by a thin line between the glass.
Another way to determine the type of glass is to look at the monogram (usually in one of the lower corners). The monogram will say either tempered or laminated.
Do NOT place a key box on a door side glass that is acoustic laminated glass.
