Beginning with the 1983 model start of production, all THM 325-4L transmissions were produced using two (2) valve train retaining clips in the control valve assembly.
The purpose of these retaining clips is to hold the valve components together as a complete unit, for ease of assembly into the control valve assembly. The retaining clips are located in the third slot of the 2-3 and 3-4 throttle valve bushings. (Figures 1 and 2).
When servicing any THM 325-4L transmissions that necessitates disassembly of the control valve assembly, it is helpful, but not necessary, to reuse the retaining clips in the 2-3 and 3-4 throttle valve assemblies.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
