3RD/4TH CYCLING CRUISE CONTROL THM325-4L MODEL OE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-83 RIVIERAS EQUIPPED WITH 5.0L ENGINES (VIN CODE Y) AND THM 325-4L MODEL "OE" TRANSMISSIONS

NOTICE: This informatim supercedes and updates Bulletin 83-169, Group 70, #30. Please discard previous bulletin and replace it with this one.

Some 1982 and 1983 Rivieras with 5.0L engines (VIN Code Y) and THM 325-4L model "OE" transmissions may experience a shift "busyness" which is most noticeable while driving up inclines and in cruise control. "Busyness" refers to cycling between fourth and third gear.

Beginning on February 2, 1983, a revised control valve assembly went into production for all 1983 THM 325-4L "OE" mdel transmissions to correct this condition. This assembly also improves a harsh 1-2 shift and a 3-2 shift flare.

When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 325-4L "OE" model transmission produced before the above date for any of these conditions order service package number 8635953. This package contains:

Control valve assembly Pressure regulator spring Intermediate servo cushion spring Control valve spacer plate 3-4 accmulator spring Instruction sheet

Refer to the instruction sheet contained in the service package as well as the service manual for proper removal and installatim procedures of the items contained in this package.

NOTICE: To complete this revision on 1982 Rivieras, the cruise control servo should be checked. If the servo housing is black in color, it should be replaced with servo part #25031846, which is gray in color.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
