VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1983 CADILLAC ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES WITH
DFI AND DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
EARLY 1983 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES WITH DFI AND DIGITAL INSTRUMENT
CLUSTER MAY NOT CONVERT THE ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL ECC HEAD
AND FUEL DATA PANEL TO METRIC UNITS WHEN "METRIC" IS SELECTED ON
THE DIGITAL CLUSTER SWITCH. THIS CONDITION IS DUE TO THE DIGITAL
CLUSTER'S INABILITY TO PROVIDE AN ADEQUATE GROUND SIGNAL ON CIRCUIT
#911 FROM THE ECM. A REVISED DIGITAL CLUSTER IS NOW IN PRODUCTION
(BEGINNING WITH CLUSTER DATE CODE 252) AND ALL EXCHANGE TUBE AND
CIRCUIT BOARDS FROM THE A/C DELCO SERVICE CENTER HAVE BEEN MODIFIED
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION.
SINCE THIS SAME CONDITION WILL EXIST IF CIRCUIT #911 IS OPEN, THE
WIRE SHOULD FIRST BE CHECKED FOR CONTINUITY BEFORE INSTALLING A
REMANUFACTURED TUBE AND CIRCUIT BOARD. IF THE ECC HEAD AND FUEL
DATA PANEL CAN BE CONVERTED TO METRIC BY GROUNDING CIRCUIT #911 AT
THE DIGITAL CLUSTER CONNECTOR PIN H, THEN THE HARNESS CAN BE
ELIMINATED AS THE CAUSE OF THE CONDITION.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional
technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform
those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or
to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a
vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools,
safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely.
If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies
to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See
a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors
vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from
the information.
