BCM EEPROM CHIP EXCHANGE PROCEDURE / REPAIR CENTERS

BCM EEPROM CHIP EXCHANGE PROGRAM

MODELS AFFECTED : 1986 RIVIERA ------------

A replacement EPROM chip can be obtained through the Service Center(s) listed below, when diagnosis indicates that the EEPROM chip is defective (code B556).

Replacement chips may be requested with either zero miles or with recent available known mileage. A chip with zero mileage should be requested when recent available known mileage is not available. Dealer must install an odometer replacement sticker on the driver door with approximate mileage when installing a chip with zero miles (unless on a new car).

When mileage is known, a chip may be requested with latest available mileage. Replacement sticker is not required if replaced chip has miles on it. In addition to mileage, the following information must be given to the Service Center when requesting a replacement EPROM chip:

o Complete VIN o Is vehicle Canadian (Z49)? o Does vehicle have Twiliglit Sentinel (T82)? o Does vehicle have lamp monitor and washer fluid level sensor (UV2)? o Does vehicle have Illuminated Entry (C97)? o Does vehicle have Theft Deterrent (UA6)? o Does vehicle have Stereo radio (UM7), Graphic Equalizer radio (UX1), or Delco GM/Bose radio (UT7)?

The replacement chip will be received with a claim form originated by the Service Center. The appropriate portions of this form are to be completed by the dealer and returned to the Service Center with the defective chip. One copy of the claim form is to be retained by the dealer and attached to the R.O. The balance of the form is to be returned to the Service Center with the defective chip. Failure to return the defective chip with the claim form will result in the assessment of a $200 charge. Zones will be notified of any chips not returned within 60 days. All replaced chips returned to the Service Center will be forwarded to Delco Electronics for evaluation and reading.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
