CLUTCH PLATE IDENTIFIERS FOR 3RD CLUTCH PLATE

SUBJECT: 3RD CLUTCH (FIBER) PLATE ASSEMBLY IDENTIFIERS ON ALL VEHICLES WITH 4T60 AND 4T60-E TRANSAXLES

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-91 CENTURY, LESABRE, ELECTRA, PARK AVENUE AND RIVIERA MODELS 1988-91 REGAL AND REATTA MODELS

BULLETIN COVERS:

Identifiers for the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies for all 1986 through 1991 Hydra-Matic 4T60 and 4T60-E transaxles.

The 3rd clutch plate assemblies discussed in Service Bulletin 90-7440-10 have many different identifier markings. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to order all overhaul and 3rd clutch plate assembly packages by the model and year of the transaxle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE: (Figure 1) ------------------ When servicing a Hydra-Matic 4T60 or 4T60-E transaxle, you may notice the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies have different markings. Listed below are all of the variations of identifiers for the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies used in all 1986 through 1991 transaxles.

1986, 1987 and 1988 models (single sided plates): - Four dark blue or black stripes - Four yellow s-tripes

1989 to present models: - No stripes with or without a "V" notch - Four dark blue or black stripes and a "V" notch - Four white stripes and a "V" notch - Four yellow stripes with or without a "V" notch - Four very faded yellow stripes with or without a "V" notch

IMPORTANT: To ensure the correct 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assembly is used, order all overhaul packages, 3rd clutch plate assembly packages and valve body assemblies by the model code and model year. The identifier markings may change again.
