There are some display conditions observed on a few of these cars that are not acceptable characteristics. These characteristics are listed below in the order most likely to occur:
1. The radio powers up but previous station frequency has been lost and the low end of the band is displayed, 530 KHZ AM or 87.7 FM. 2. The distance to destination display flashes between accurate display and all zeros. 3. The display locks up in the logo mode.
These display deviations may only occur on a small number of cars under the following sequence of events:
1. Driver leaves radio on with ignition off.
2. Display on entry mode is triggered when driver returns to car, touches door handle, opens and closes the door.
3. Driver turns key to ignition briefly (approximately 200 milliseconds or more) before cranking the engine. (This would be considered a normal start.)
A new service package, 1228475, is being released and should be available by the end on March or sooner. This package will supersede 1227813.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the CRTC controller with service part number 1228475. No removal or repair of any other parts in the system is necessary.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
