AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 RIVIERA/REATTA

All 1988 Rivieras/Reattas are equipped with a refrigerant system filter within the compressor hose assembly muffler (Illustration). This filter eliminates the need to flush the A/C system after a compressor failure.

When replacing a compressor on a 1988 Riviera/Reatta:

1. Replace the compressor hose assembly (P/N 1644314)

2. Inspect the orifice tube for debris and if necessary clean or replace it.

NOTICE: If, in the unlikely event the muffler assembly filter is ripped or damaged and debris is noted at the orifice tube, flush the system with Refrigerant 12 (R-12), following the procedure outlined in the 1987 Chassis Service Manual on pages lBl4 and 15. ' For warranty purposes, use labor operation D4440 at .6 hour for compressor replacement with an add time of 1.1 hours for compressor hose assembly replacement and .5 hour to discharge/charge A/C system.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
