REATTA PASSENGERS SEAT BACK MOVEMENT WHEN STOPPING

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 REATTAS WITH AF9 (SEAT ASSEMBLY, RECLINING) PRODUCED BEFORE APRIL 1, 1988

Some 1988 Reatta passenger seat backs may exhibit movement during normal vehicle braking maneuvers. This condition may be repaired by installing a new hinge, Part Number 12396177, and pivot, Part Number 12396176, using the following procedure.

Parts are expected to be available on December 5, 1988. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.

1. Remove passenger seat from vehicle and place on a clean work bench.

2. Remover the side hinge/pivot cover(s).

3. Cut and remove hog rings across bottom of seat back. Unfasten velcro tabs.

4. Carefully peel seat back cover up to expose bolts on the hinge and pivot.

5. Remove bolts from old hinge (outboard side). Remove old hinge and discard. Replace with new pivot (Part Number 12396176 - marked "R" for right side) and reinstall bolts. Torque to 3.6 N.m (17.0 lb. ft.). Refer to Figure 1.

6. Remove bolts from old pivot (inboard side). Remove old pivot and discard Replace with new hinge (Part Number 12396177 - marked "L" for left side and reinstall bolts. Torque to 3.0 N.m (17.0 lb. ft.). Refer to Figure 1.

7. Pull seat back cover down and refasten velcro tabs. Make sure tabs are properly aligned.

8. Re-hog ring the back listings together, trying to use the existing holes.

9. Replace the side hinge/pivot cover(s). Do not over tighten as the plastic breaks easily.

10. Reinstall seat in vehicle, connect electrical connectors, and test to assure proper function.
