When performing the new vehicle inspection procedure on the 1988 Riviera or Reatta, the personal reminder messages should be erased from BCM memory. If the messages are not erased, the customer could be presented with messages which may have been entered in assembly, during shipment or while in dealer inventory. Vehicles in fleet or rental service should have the reminder cleared prior to delivery to the next user.
To clear the reminder, proceed as follows:
1. Key on, press the "Options" hard key.
2. Select "Reminder" soft key on the "Options" page.
3. Select "View" soft key on the "Reminder" page.
4. If the message space is empty, the screen will show "Reminder Space Empty - Do You Wish To Enter A Reminder". If this is shown when "View" is pressed, stop - all messages are clear. If a message is shown, go to 5.
5. Each time a reminder message is shown, press the "Delete" soft key on the "Reminder View" page.
6. The "Reminder View" page will then show the question "Delete?". Press "Yes" soft key to confirm the message deletion.
7. Continue to clear messages until the message "Reminder Space Empty - Do You Wish To Enter A Reminder?" is shown.
For more information about the personal reminder message feature, refer to the 1988 Riviera/Reatta Owner's Manual.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
