AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

Vehicles Affected: 1988 RIVIERA/REATTA -----------------

All 1988 Rivieras/Reattas are equipped with a refrigerant system filter within the compressor hose assembly muffler (Illustration). This filter eliminates the need to flush the A/C system after a compressor failure.

When replacing a compressor on a 1988 Riviera/Reatta:

1. Replace the compressor hose assembly, Part Number 1644314.

2. Inspect the orifice tube for debris and, if necessary, clean or replace it.

NOTICE: If, in the unlikely event the muffler assembly filter is ripped or damaged and debris is noted at the orifice tube, flush the system with Refrigerant 12 (R-12), following the procedure outlined in the 1987 Chassis Service Manual on Pages 1B14 and 15.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
