CONSOLE ARMREST COVER HIGH LATCHING EFFORT/ADJUST HINGE

CONSOLE ARMREST COVER HIGH LATCHING EFFORT, ADJUST HINGE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 BUICK RIVIERAS AND REATTAS ------------------

Some 1988 Rivieras and Reattas may experience a high latching effort condition when closing the console armrest cover. This condition may be caused by either the cassette stowage tray and stowage compartment not being fully seated into the console armrest support or the armrest cover hinge being positioned too far forward. To repair this condition use the following procedure, refer to Figure 1:

1. Verify that the stowage compartment and the cassette stowage tray are fully seated into the armrest support. If they are not, assemble these parts so they are fully seated and then check for high latching effort. The top of the cassette stowage tray should be even with the top of the console.

2. If high latching effort condition still exists, loosen the three screws attaching the armrest cover hinge to the armrest support. Adjust the hinge to the rear-most location, re-tighten the screws, and then check for proper latching effort.

Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time Guide and claim 0.2 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
