DOOR TO FENDER CONTACT REPAIR PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 REATTA

Some 1989 Reattas may experience a condition of the door hitting the fender and possibly chipping paint at the base of the A-pillar, center of the door or lower rocker-sill areas.

This may be caused by insufficient gap clearance of 6mm between door and fender or an inboard outboard clearance condition of the flush to 1.5mm door to fender.

To repair this condition, use the following procedure:

1. Insufficient gap clearance - base of A-pillar/top of door.

a. Loosen three screws front fender motor compartment upper (ref. 1, 2, and 3). Refer to Figure 1.

b. Position fender outboard or forward and retighten screws.

2. Insufficient gap clearance - lower rocker sill.

a. Loosen two screws front fender to milled blocks on front body hinge pillar (ref. 4 and 5). Refer to Figure 1.

b. Position fender forward and retighten screws.

3. Insufficient outboard clearance - center, door to fender.

a. Remove two protective caps and three screws securing the wheelhouse panel (ref. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). Refer to Figure 2.

b. Move wheelhouse panel aside for access to installed nut of fender bracket (ref. 1). Refer to Figure 3.

c. Open door and loosen one screw through fender bracket (ref 2). Refer to Figures 3 and 4.

d. Position fender outboard and retighten screw.

e. Reinstall wheelhouse panel and use screws and protective caps previously removed.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
