INSIDE DOOR HANDLE PULLS LOOSE REPLACE PULL HANDLE INSERT

SOME OWNERS OF 1990-91 RIVIERAS MAY EXHIBIT A CONDITION WHERE THE INSIDE DOOR PULL HANDLE BREAKS LOOSE. THIS CONDITION OCCURS WHEN THE DIE CAST ESCUTCHEON WHICH RETAINS THE PULL STRAP BREAKS. REFER TO FIGURE 1. A REVISED DIE CAST ESCUTCHEON IS NOW AVAILABLE AS A SEPARATE SERVICE PART, P/N 16659897.

TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

1. REMOVE DOOR TRIM PAD.

2. REMOVE PULL HANDLE INSERT BY DISENGAGING TRIM FASTENERS.

3. REMOVE BOTH DIE CAST ESCUTCHEONS BY DISENGAGING WASHERS FROM BACK SIDE OF INSERT.

4. DISCARD ESCUTCHEONS AND WASHERS.

NOTE: WASHERS ARE NOT NEEDED ON NEW ESCUTCHEONS. ESCUTCHEONS ARE RETAINED USING THE ORIGINAL SCREW AND TRIM FASTENERS.

5. INSTALL PULL HANDLE INSERT TO DOOR TRIM.

6. INSTALL DOOR TRIM PAD.

7. INSTALL PULL HANDLE AND NEW ESCUTCHEONS, P/N 16659897.

PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.

FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES USE LABOR OPERATION T6604 AT 1.0 HOUR FOR BOTH DOORS.
