LOOSE PULL STRAP ON DOOR TRIM (INSTALL NEW SHEET METAL CLIP)

SUBJECT: LOOSE PULL STRAP ON DOOR TRIM (INSTALL NEW SHEET METAL CLIPS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 BUICK REATTA 'E' MODEL

Some 1990 Buick Reattas may experience a condition where the pull strap on the door pad may become loose. This condition may be caused by insufficient retention of the retaining screw to the sheet metal clip. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove seat switch bezel and two screws from door pad.

2. Remove door pull strap.

NOTE: To remove strap, use flat-sided screwdriver to pull out the end of the vinyl pull strap tucked under the trim plate. Remove retaining screws located under the vinyl pull strap. Discard these screws. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Remove door handle finishing cup.

4. Remove door trim pad.

5. Remove both sheet metal clips from door inner that retain the door pull strap and discard.

NOTE: It may be necessary to push aside the lock rod module when removing and installing the most forward sheet metal clip. Refer to Figure 2.

6. Install new sheet metal clips, P/N #15650630.

7. Reinstall door pad.

8. Reinstall door pull strap using new screws, P/N #11503796. Torque to 5 N.m (44 in.lbs.).

9. Reinstall remaining parts.

10. Repeat procedure on other door.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
