MAIN BEARING CAP - SIDE BOLT OIL LEAK

THIS IS A MONTHLY SERVICE NEWSLETTER ARTICLE THIS INFORMATION IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A PUBLISHED BULLETIN

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT AN ENGINE OIL LEAK. THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINES THAT THE LEAK APPEARS TO ORIGINATE NEAR THE OIL PAN RAIL.

CAUSE:

FIRST REFER TO BULLETINS 77-61-16 AND 77-61-22. INSTALL ENGINE OIL DYE AS DIRECTED IN BOTH BULLETINS AND INSPECT FOR OIL LEAKS USING A BLACK LIGHT. IF THE LEAK APPEARS TO ORIGINATE ABOVE THE PAN RAIL, BUT NOT FROM THE REAR HOUSING OR LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD END SEALS, THEN INSPECT FOR LEAKS AT THE MAIN BEARING SIDE BOLTS. THE SIDE BOLTS COULD LEAK DUE TO UNEVEN BOLT HEAD FLANGES CREATING A LEAK PATH.

CORRECTION:

REPLACE ALL SIX MAIN BEARING SIDE BOLTS. REMOVAL OF THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY FROM THE VEHICLE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE SIDE BOLTS MAY BE NECESSARY.

PARTS: MAIN BEARING SIDE BOLTS - 24505576 (6 PIECES ARE NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL).
