Throttle Body Assembly Replacement VIN K Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the radiator coolant.

  2. Object Number: 48328  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.

  4. Object Number: 60362  Size: SH
  5. Remove the air intake tube (1).

  6. Object Number: 12278  Size: SH
  7. Remove the IAC valve (4), TP sensor (3), and MAF sensor (1), electrical connectors.

  8. Object Number: 60151  Size: SH
  9. Remove the accelerator control (3) and cruise control (1) cables from the throttle body lever and bracket.
  10. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket.

  11. Object Number: 12246  Size: SH
  12. Remove the accelerator control bracket from the throttle body.

  13. Object Number: 12243  Size: SH
  14. Remove the vacuum lines from the throttle body noting location.
  15. Remove the throttle body support bracket (VIN K only).

  16. Object Number: 12270  Size: SH
  17. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold using a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts to prevent the inserts from rotating in the manifold casting.
  18. Remove the throttle body assembly.
  19. Notice: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

    Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

  20. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12246  Size: SH
  1. Install the accelerator control bracket to the throttle body.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the accelerator control bracket to 3 N·m (27 lb. in.).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the new gasket, new inserts, and studs if necessary.
  4. Install the throttle body assembly.
  5. Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the throttle body support bracket.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the throttle body support bracket to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the vacuum lines to throttle body as noted on removal.

  10. Object Number: 60151  Size: SH
  11. Install the accelerator control (3) and cruise control cables (1) to accelerator cable bracket at throttle body.

  12. Object Number: 12265  Size: SH
  13. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to the throttle body lever and accelerator control bracket.
  14. Important: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.

    The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle. Refer to Accelerator Controls for additional information on accelerator controls.

  15. Install the electrical harness retainer clip and harness to the accelerator control cable bracket.

  17. Install the IAC valve (1), TP sensor (3), and MAF sensor (1), electrical connectors.

  19. Install the air intake tube (1).

  20. Object Number: 48328  Size: SH
  21. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
  22. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.

Throttle Body Assembly Replacement Air Inlet Screen

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air intake tube (1).

  2. Object Number: 12278  Size: SH
  3. Remove the snap ring.
  4. Remove the throttle body air inlet screen (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12278  Size: SH
  1. Install the throttle body air inlet screen (2).
  2. Install the snap ring.

  3. Object Number: 60362  Size: SH
  4. Install the air intake tube (1).

  8. Remove the accelerator control (3) and cruise control (1) cables from the throttle body lever and bracket.
  9. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket.

  11. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket from the throttle body.

  12. Object Number: 60402  Size: SH
  13. Remove the vacuum lines (1) from the throttle body noting location.

  14. Object Number: 12267  Size: SH
  15. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold using a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts to prevent the inserts from rotating in the manifold casting.

  7. Install the vacuum lines (1) to throttle body as noted on removal.

  8. Object Number: 12258  Size: SH
  9. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to accelerator cable bracket at throttle body

  10. Object Number: 12265  Size: SH
  11. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to the throttle body lever.

  17. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 2 N·m (18 in lb).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  19. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.
