THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO REVISE THE SCHEMATICS AND DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS IN SECTIONS 8A-80 AND 8A-81 OF THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUALS AS FOLLOWS:
- FOR EACH 1997 VEHICLE LISTED ABOVE, THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL RESISTANCE IS 40 OHMS TO 250 OHMS. THE ATTACHED SCHEMATICS AND DIAGNOSTICS CHARTS INCORPORATE THIS CHANGE.
- PAGE 8A-81-42 OF THE 1997 G-CAR SERVICE MANUAL SHOULD BE CHANGED AS FOLLOWS TO REFLECT THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL RESISTANCE (40 OHMS TO 250 OHMS):
FUEL DISPLAY
THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR PROVIDES A SIGNAL TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE FUEL LEVEL. WITH A FULL TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE SENDER RESISTANCE IS 250 OHMS; WITH AN EMPTY TANK, THE RESISTANCE IS NEAR 40 OHMS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONVERTS THE ANALOG SIGNAL FROM THE FUEL GAUGE SENDER TO A DIGITAL SIGNAL THAT CONTROLS THE AIR CORE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAY.
- THE CHART TITLED "FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY (97 BUICK, PONTIAC)" INCLUDES SEVERAL IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CORRESPONDING CHARTS IN THE 1997 "H" SERVICE MANUAL.
- THE 1996 CHARTS TITLED "FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY" INCLUDE SEVERAL IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CORRESPONDING CHARTS IN THE 1996 "C/H" SERVICE MANUAL. (THESE CHARTS APPLY ONLY TO THE 1996 "H" VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FUEL LEVEL MODULES.)
PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING ATTACHMENTS TO REPLACE THE EXISTING PAGES IN THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUALS.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
