Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29800 Strut Cut Off Tool

  1. Support the intermediate pipe.

  2. Object Number: 25822  Size: SH
  3. Cut the intermediate pipe as close to the muffler as the tool will permit (1). Use the J 29800 .

  4. Object Number: 71760  Size: SH
  5. Remove the muffler hangers.
  6. Remove the muffler assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the muffler.
  2. Install the hangers.

  3. Object Number: 43554  Size: SH
  4. Install the intermediate pipe to the muffler using a bolt type clamp.
  5. Position the clamp on the left side muffler so that the nuts are toward the left side of the vehicle.
  6. Position the clamp on the right side muffler so that the nuts are toward the right side of the vehicle.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Align the muffler and intermediate pipe/resonator assembly to the proper clearance.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
