J 28733-B Front Hub Spindle Remover

1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle by the frame. Allow the control arms to hang free.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Clean the drive axle threads of all dirt. Lubricate the threads.



4. Remove the drive axle nut. Insert a drift punch or a screwdriver into the caliper and the rotor in order to prevent the rotor from turning.
5. Remove the caliper bolts. Support the caliper.
6. Remove the rotor.



7. Disconnect the ABS front wheel speed sensor connector. Unclip the connector from the dust shield.



8. Remove the hub and bearing retaining bolts.
9. Remove the dust shield.
10. Place the transmission in PARK.

Important: Replace the hub and bearing only as an assembly.

11. Use the J 28733-B in order to separate the hub and bearing from the drive axle.
12. Clean the rust and the foreign material from the following components in order to allow proper seating of the bearing into the knuckle:

•	The knuckle mounting face

•

The bore

•	The chamber

1. Install the hub and bearing to the drive axle. Apply a thin layer of grease to the knuckle bore.

Remove the protective plastic cover before installation. Do not handle the knuckle or hub assembly by the ABS sensor wire.




2. Install the new drive axle nut, draw hub and bearing onto the axle.
3. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Carefully install the dust shield. Do not damage the bearing outboard lip seal, or the hub and bearing bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).




5. Connect the ABS front wheel speed sensor connector. Clip the connector to the dust shield.
6. Install the rotor.
7. Install the caliper. Tighten the caliper bolts. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .

Tighten
Tighten the caliper bolts to 51 N·m (38 lb ft).




8. Insert a drift punch or a screwdriver into the caliper and rotor in order to prevent the rotor from turning.

Tighten
Tighten the drive axle nut to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

9. Install the wheel and tire.

Tighten
Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).

10. Lower the vehicle.
