Knee Bolster Replacement Buick
Removal Procedure
- Remove the instrument panel trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement
.
- Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
.
- Remove the fasteners (4).
- Remove the knee bolster (3) from the instrument panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors (1,6).
- Remove the air temperature sensor. Refer to
Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement
in HVAC
- Automatic.
Installation Procedure
- Install the air temperature
sensor. Refer to
Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement
in HVAC - Automatic.
- Connect the electrical connectors (1,6).
- Install the knee bolster (3) to the instrument panel.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fasteners (4).
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the left sound insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
.
- Install the instrument cluster trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement
.
Knee Bolster Replacement Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
- Remove the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to
Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement
.
- Remove the fasteners (4)
that retain the knee bolster reinforcement to the instrument panel (IP).
- Partially remove the reinforcement (3).
- Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the air temperature
sensor.
Disconnect the aspirator tube (2) from the air temperature sensor.
Remove the knee bolster reinforcement (3).
- Remove the air temperature sensor from the knee bolster reinforcement.

Installation Procedure
- Install the air temperature
sensor to the knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to
Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement
in HVAC System-Automatic.
- Partially install the knee bolster reinforcement (3).
- Connect the aspirator hose (2) to the air temperature sensor.
Connect the electrical connector (1).
- Locate the reinforcement to the locator pins on the instrument
panel (IP) carrier.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or

- Install the reinforcement
fasteners (4).
Tighten
