Power Steering Pump Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  2. Object Number: 277311  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the following components from the pump (2):
  4. • The power steering gear outlet hose (3)
    • The power steering gear inlet hose (1)

  5. Remove the mounting bolts (4).
  6. Remove the following components from the engine:
  7. • The pump (2)
    • The mounting bracket (1)
  8. Remove the following components if necessary:
  9. • The transfer pulley (3)
    • The bracket

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 277312  Size: SH
  1. Install the pump (2) with the pulley (3) and the bracket (1) to the top of the engine.
  2. Install the mounting bolts (4).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the following components to the pump (2):
  5. • The power steering gear outlet hose (3)
    • The power steering gear inlet hose (1)

    Tighten

        • Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
        • Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
  6. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  7. Fill and bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  8. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  2. Object Number: 277309  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose (4) from the pump (1).
  4. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose (3) from the pump (1).
  5. Remove the two mounting bolts (2).
  6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the pump from beneath the engine.
  8. Remove the transfer pulley as needed.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 277309  Size: SH
  1. Install the pump (1) with the pulley and the mounting bolts (2).
  2. Connect the following components to the pump (1):
  3. • The power steering gear outlet hose (4)
    • The power steering gear inlet hose (3)

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the power steering inlet hose to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  6. Fill and bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  7. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
