Steering issues may not be limited to just one system. You must consider several systems when you diagnose steering issues. First, road test the vehicle in order to avoid using the wrong symptom. Proceed with the following preliminary inspections. Correct any substandard conditions.

    • Inspect the tires for the following conditions:
       - Wrong pressure
       - Uneven wear
    • Inspect the joints from the column to the steering gear for the following conditions:
       - Loose connectors
       - Wear
    • Inspect the following components for loose or damaged components:
       - The front suspension
       - The rear suspension
       - The steering gear
    • Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
    • Inspect the power steering fluid level.
    • Inspect the pump drive belt tension.
