The lip seals seal the rotating shafts. The lip seals require
special treatment. Lip seals are used on the steering gear at the following
locations:
When a leak occurs in these areas, complete the following steps:
| • | Inspect the sealing surface. |
| • | Clean the sealing surface. |
If corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is slight, clean the surface
of the shaft using a crocus cloth. Replace the shaft only under the following
conditions:
| • | You find such severe pitting that cleaning the shaft will not
stop the leak |
| • | Unit Repair procedures indicate that the shaft is replaceable. |
