Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disconnect connector C4 from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  2. Measure the voltage from connector C4 of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil terminal A (harness side) to ground.

Does the voltage measure in the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 9

Inspect the 2A switch fuse in the steering column fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Repair the short to ground in the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil or the steering wheel controls.

Did you complete the repair?

Repair an open or a short to ground in CKT 43 (YEL).

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Press and hold the steering wheel controls VOL DOWN switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from connector C4 of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil terminals A to C (steering column side).

Does the resistance measure in the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

  2. Press and hold the steering wheel controls VOL DOWN switch.
  3. Measure the resistance from the steering wheel controls connector terminals A to C.

Does the resistance measure in the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.

Inspect CKT 1011 (LT GRN) for an open, a short to ground, or high resistance.

Is CKT 1011 (LT GRN) OK?
