CLICKING 'SHOE SLAP' R. BRAKES (REPLACE BRAKE DRUMS)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS OF 1992 B-CAR SEDANS WITH JA2 BRAKES MAY COMMENT ON A "CLICKING" TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES DURING APPLY.

CAUSE:

IMPROPER MACHINING CREATES A "THREAD LIKE" PATTERN ON THE DRUM BRAKING SURFACE WHICH CAUSES THE BRAKE SHOES TO MOVE OUT IN THE DRUM AND THEN "CLICK OR SLAP" BACK ON THE BACKING PLATE.

CORRECTION:

AS OF THE FOLLOWING VIN BREAKPOINTS, A NEW BRAKE DRUM WAS RELEASED FOR PRODUCTION ON ALL SEDANS WITH JA2 BRAKES. THIS DRUM HAS A REVISED SURFACE FINISH TO REDUCE "SHOE SLAP" ON DRUM BRAKES. IF A VEHICLE IS FOUND WITH THIS CONDITION, REPLACE BOTH BRAKE DRUMS WITH THE NEW P/N 1244646.
