WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE ARM INSTALLATION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982 and 1983 Skyhawks

This Bulletin revises the procedure described in the 1983 Fisher Body Service Manual (Page 2-1) for removing, installing, and adjusting the windshield wiper blade arms on 1982 and 1983 Skyhawks.

The following revised procedure should be used when removing, installing, or adjusting the windshield wiper blade arms:

Removal and Installation

1. Use Tool J-8966 or equivalent and lift arm off transmission spindle shaft (Figure 2-1).

2. To install, reverse removal procedures and check the operation of wipers. The tool used to remove the wiper arm(s) can also be used to install the arm(s).

The wiper blades are to be installed (Figure 2-2) as near as possible to the top edge of the blackout line on the glass, with the motor in park position.

Inspection

The correct blade out-wipe position is 28mm (1-3/32") from the tip of the blade to the left windshield pillar molding (driver's side) plus 17mm (3/4") or minus 13mm (112"). This checking procedure should be done on a wet glass surface.

Adjustments

To adjust the wiper arm to correct blade position, remove the arm(s) from the serrated transmission spindle shaft. Rotate the arm(s), as required, and reinstall to transmission spindle shaft. Reinspect to ensure proper blade out-wipe position.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
