WIPERS REMAIN ON CONTINUOUSLY PULSE WIPE MODULE CHANGE

Models Affected: 1983 Skyhawk

Condition:

Wipers remain on continuously and cannot be shut off, except when turning ignition off.

Cause:

Wiper blades stopped in any position other than full park can become stuck by ice or snow. When the ignition is turned from off to crank position, a transient voltage spike from the wiper motor can damage the pulse wiper module.

Correction:

Use part number 10036435 to replace the existing module. Be sure the ground wire screw is secured. Torque to 3.0 - 4.6 N.m (2-3 lb. ft.)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
