ROAR NOISE IN CLUTCH CABLE TO CLUTCH BRACKET

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 Skvhawks With Manual Transaxles

A "buzzing" or "roaring" noise coming from under dash in the area of the clutch pedal can be caused by the routing of the clutch cable allowing the cable to vibrate.

The noise will generally be audible at engine speeds of 2500 RPM and above when the cable goes into vibration.

To verify if the clutch cable is the source of the noise, operate the vehicle at an engine speed where the noise occurs. Apply foot pressure on the clutch pedal. Tf the noise stops with slight foot pressure, corrections can be made as follows:

1. Remove the hush panel to gain access to the clutch bracket.

2. Refer to Illustration 1. The clutch cable is enclosed in a plastic sheath in the area of the rubber isolator. Push the sheath downward in the slot of the rubber isolator.

3. The sheath should be held secure in the isolator. This should eliminate the buzz noise.

4. Reinstall the hush panel.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
