Figure 1 identifies block and crankshaft size in the 1.8L (VIN Code 0) engine used in 1982-85 'J' Series models. Block size of standard or oversize is identified by '0' or '1' marked on the pan rail, while crankshaft size of standard or '.010' undersize is identified by colour. Use the appropriate chart for the crankshaft that is installed in the engine and select the proper colour bearing for either standard or oversize block. Use the 'plasti-gauge' method to determine that the bearing selected will provide the proper clearance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
