THE 1983 FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL FOR "A" , "X", AND "J" STYLES OMITTED THE TORQUE ROD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR "J" STYLE CARS. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD BE INCORPORATED IN SECTION 7, PAGE 7-2 OF THE 1983 "A", "X" AND "J" STYLE BODY SERVICE MANUAL. 1. RAISE THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID AND PROP IT OPEN. 2. REMOVE THE RIGHT AND LEFT QUARTER WHEELHOUSE TRIM ON STYLES SO EQUIPPED. 3. USING TOOL J-21412 OR EQUIVALENT DISENGAGE THE TORQUE ROD END FROM THE BRACKET AND ALLOW THE ROD TO SLOWLY UNWIND. DISENGAGE THE OPPOSITE END OF THE ROD FROM THE HINGE AND REMOVE THE ROD. REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE ON THE OTHER SIDE (FIGURE 7-2). 4. TO INSTALL THE TORQUE ROD, REVERSE THE REMOVAL PROCEDURE, CHECK FOR PROPER LID OPERATION AND ADJUST THE TORQUE RODS AS REQUIRED. REPLACE ANY TRIM REMOVED.
