Some Skyhawk coupes with a sunroof may develop a water leak. This may occur between the glass and the seal near the center line of the car, and could be the result of the glass contour. If the glass contour and the roof do not match, the glass should be replaced with new glass, Part Number 20717541.
This new glass has been contoured to match the coupe roof line and was introduced with the start of 1988 production. The new contoured glass is only for the coupe sunroof appl ication and may be identified by a "C" marking in the glass monogram block.
It is also important when correcting water leaks on 1985 and 1986 models, to use the new hinges, Part Number 20696950, which were released in July, 1986, to improve wind noise and water leaks due to hinge deformation.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
