The engine metal temperature switch that was used on J carlines with the 2.01 (Vin 1) engine, was eliminated in 1988. An illustration in section 6D5 (engine wiring) incorrectly points to a "metal temperature switch connector" (item 9) in the following service manuals:
1988- Chevrolet - Page 6D5-1, Figure 1
1988- Oldsmobile - Page 6D5-7, Figure 6
1988- Buick - 1988 2.0L (Vin 1) engine Supplement, Page 6D5-1, Figure 1
1989- Buick - 1989 Buick Skyhawk and Skylark New Product Service Service Manual, Page 6D5-1, Figure 1
Please draw a line through the legend and the art at item 9 on your copy of the service manual
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
