HOT AIR LEAK FROM HEATER ADJUST DASH CONTROL CABLE

Models Affected: 1980-1985 Skylarks With C41

Hot air leak from the heater, when not in heater mode, may be caused by the dash control head or the bowden cable adjustment. The temperature valve bowden cable sliding clip and the dash control lever may be readjusted using the following procedure.

With the temperature lever on the dash control head retained in a position 3/8" from the extreme cold position, (use a 3/8" wide wood or plastic spacer to maintain position and install as shown in figure). Apply sufficient force to the temperature valve lever arm to move the temperature valve into the sealed cold position and reposition the sliding clip on the wire. This will result in a temperature valve seal in both the hot and cold positions.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
