THE "BAT" TERMINAL ON PASSENGER CAR AND LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS CRANKING MOTOR SOLENOIDS IS BEING CHANGED TO METRIC THREADS. THE "BAT" TERMINAL IS THE LARGE TERMINAL TO WHICH THE BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE IS ATTACHED. THIS IS A RUNNING CHANGE IN PRODUCTION WHICH WILL EXTEND OVER SEVERAL MONTHS' TIME. SERVICE MOTORS WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH THE METRIC NUT ASSEMBLED ON THE SOLENOID "BAT" TERMINAL. SERVICE SOLENOIDS WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH THE METRIC NUT CONTAINED IN THE PACKAGE AS A LOOSE PART. SINCE THIS IS A RUNNING CHANGE, BOTH THREAD TYPES WILL BE ENCOUNTERED IN THE FIELD UNTIL ALL OLD STOCK IS USED UP. THEREFORE, WHEN ATTACHING THE CABLE, BE SURE TO USE THE NUT PROVIDED TO SECURE THE CABLE CONNECTOR.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
