EARLY PRODUCTION THM 125C TRANSAXLE EQUIPPED CIMARRONS (BUILT PRIOR TO TRANSAXLE SERIAL NUMBER 82 CJ 31873) MAY EXPERIENCE A VARYING FORE AND AFT RIDE MOTION DURING VEHICLE SPEEDS ABOVE 25 MPH WITH THE TRANSAXLE IN THIRD GEAR AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ENGAGED. THIS CONDITION CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO AN ON-OFF EFFECT OF THE CLUTCH CAUSED BY INCORRECT HYDRAULIC APPLICATIONS WITHIN THE TRANSAXLE. THIS BULLETIN CONTAINS PARTS AND SERVICE INFORMATION DESCRIBING A REDESIGNED OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL (REFER TO FIGURE 1) THAT CAN BE INSTALLED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION AS WELL AS A REVISED OIL PUMP SHAFT BEARING ASSEMBLY R&I PROCEDURE. SERVICE PROCEDURE (NOTE: STEPS 1 AND 2 AND FIGURES 2 AND 3 OF THIS PROCEDURE REVISE STEPS 3A AND B AND FIGURES 125C-216 AND 217 ON PAGES 125C-61 AND 62 OF THE 1982 CIMARRON SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL.) 1.WHEN REMOVING ONLY THE OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL, PRY OUT SEAL WITH SCREWDRIVER. PROCEED TO STEP 4. 2.WHEN REMOVING THE BEARING ASSEMBLY AND THE OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL, USE TOOL J-28698 AND J-7079-2. DRIVE OUT TOWARD CASE COVER SIDE (REFER TO FIGURE 2). 3.INSTALL THE NEW BEARING (P/N 8631277) USING TOOL J-28698 AND J-7079-2. INSTALL UNTIL THE BEARING IS 1.00MM TO 1.20MM (.040" TO .047") ABOVE THE PUMP POCKET FACE. CHECK THIS DIMENSION WITH FEELER GAGE (REFER TO FIGURE 3). 4.INSTALL THE NEW OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL (P/N 8637569) USING TOOL J-28698 AND J-7079-2. INSTALL SEAL WITH STEEL SIDE UP FROM THE CASE COVER SIDE. INSTALL UNTIL THE PUMP SHAFT SEAL IS 0.50MM (0.020") ABOVE THE SURFACE TO FLUSH. DO NOT DRIVE THE OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL BELOW THE SURFACE (REFER TO FIGURE 4). 5.RECHECK THE BEARING ASSEMBLY TO MAKE SURE THE BEARING CUP IS 1.00MM TO 1.20MM (0.40" TO .047") ABOVE THE PUMP POCKET FACE. WHEN A CONTROL VALVE OIL PUMP IS INSTALLED ON CAR, BE CERTAIN THE OIL PUMP SHAFT IS COMPLETELY SEATED IN THE CONTROL VALVE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY BEFORE INSTALLING. THE NEW OIL PUMP SHAFT SEAL MAY BE USED ON ALL THM 125C TRANSMISSIONS. FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES, USE LTG OPERATION NO. K6570 AT 1.1 HOURS.
