MOOELS AFFECTED: 1982 Electras & Rivieras with Standard Steering, and 1982 Centurys, LeSabres, Regals and Skylarks with Deluxe Steering Wheel (Option N30)
Some subject models may have a squeaking or creaking noise at the ends of the horn shroud when the steering wheel is flexed. Urethane foam is being added to the horn shroud in production to eliminate this noise.
If an owner's vehicle requires correction of this noise, remove horn pad and add urethane foam as instructed on Page 2 of this bulletin.
Warranty Information
Operation Number T5044
Labor Time 0.2 hour
Trouble Code 92
Wedge a piece of urethane foam approximately 9/16" long by 3/8" thick between ends of shroud and steering wheel (4 places). Do not use a lubricant as this may not be a permanent correction and may "run" out on shroud. After horn pad installed, trim any excessive foam. Removal of steering wheel or shroud is not required. Standard wheel shown, deluxe similar.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
