TO OBTAIN SATISFACTORY REFINISHING RESULTS ON 1982 CARS, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE TYPE OF PRODUCTION PAINT BE DETERMINED AND THE CORRECT REPAIR PRO- CEDURES BE USED. THE CORRECT COLOUR AND PAINT TYPE CAN BE DETERMINED BY RE- FERRING TO THE BODY IDENTIFICATION PLATE (SEE FIGURE 1 AND 2). THE IDENTIFI- CATION PLATE IS LOCATED ON THE UPPER HORIZONTAL SURFACE OF THE COWL PLENUM CHAMBER ON ALL MODELS EXCEPT J,A,F,X AND T. THE BODY E.D. PLATE FOR THESE MODELS IS LOCATED ON THE UPPER HORIZONTAL SURFACE OF THE RADIATOR SUPPORT. THE CORVETTE I.D. PLATE IS ATTACHED TO THE LEFT DOOR HINGE PILLAR.
EACH TYPE OF PAINT HAS DIFFERENT REPAIR CHARACTERISTICS AS OUTLINED IN THE CHART (FIGURE 3) WHICH MUST BE FOLLOWED IN ORDER TO ENSURE SATISFACTORY REFINISHING RESULTS.
COMPREHENSIVE PAINT REPAIR PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED THROUGH OR GENERAL MOTORS TRAINING CENTERS ACROSS CANADA. FOR INFORMATION ON ATTENDING A PAINT REPAIR COURSE CONTACT YOUR G.M. ZONE REPRESENTATIVE.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
