The oil level indicator tube assemblies are made by either brazing or spot welding the brackets to the tube. With the optional spot weld design (see Figure #1), the protrusions into the tube can restrict the dipstick from being fully seated. When this happens, the dipstick will indicate engine oil level approximately one (1) pint low and, if brought up to full, it will actually be too full. If this condition is encountered, the dipstick tube should be replaced.
WDDGM dipstick tube (part number 10027337) service stock is only the braze design.
The oil fill recommendations for this engine is three (3) quarts with or without an oil filter change.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
