RATTLE DUE TO LOOSE AIR PUMP TORQUE / PULLEY BOLTS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: All 1983 and 1984 Passenger Cars Equipped With A.I.R. Systems Except Corvette

A rattling noise from the engine compartment may be experienced due to loose A.I.R. pump pulley attaching bolts.

The following procedure must be used to correct the condition:

1. Remove the drive belt from the A.I.R. pump pulley.

2. Remove three (3) A.I.R. pump pulley attaching bolts and discard.

3. Inspect and remove any foreign material from the contact surfaces of the pulley and the pump.

4. Replace pulley if the holes have been elongated.

5. Reinstall the pulley using three (3) bolts, P/N 14063759. Use a torque wrench to torque all three (3) bolts to 14 N.m (124 in. lbs.).

6. Recheck the bolts to ensure they have not lost torque within ten minutes.

7. If specified torque cannot be reached, inspect pump threads for stripping and replace as necessary.

8. Reinstall and retension the belt.
