SERVICE BRAKE PART NUMBER (REDUCES PEDAL EFFORT)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 SKYHAWKS, SOMERSETS AND SKYLARKS EARLY 1988 SKYHAWKS AND SKYLARKS

Owner comments may be received regarding brake pedal effort on subject vehicles. A reduction in brake pedal effort can be accomplished by replacing the original front brake pads with lining material Part Number 18015497.

Owners should be advised that some brake squeal may be associated with the 18015497 lining material, particularly in warm weather and periods of heavy brake usage. The 18015497 lining is to be used for pedal effort complaint vehicles ONLY and not as a general service lining replacement. DO NOT refinish the rotors when installing the new pads, unless absolutely necessary due to external damage. Light surface rust and circumferential grooves in the rotor faces up to a depth of 0.015", caused by the original pads, will not adversely affect brake performance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
