CHILD SEAT INSTALLATION ON 1987 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC SAFETY BELTS
To install a child's seat in 1987 vehicles equipped with automatic safety belts, a separate child seat restraint is required. A child seat restraint belt package is available only as a dealer installed option. Belts are available only in the color black. Accessory packages listed below are available through the Parts Department:

Installation of the accessory belt package, which includes an adapter belt and buckle, is outlined in the 1987 Body Service Manual, Section 9C and 9F. The procedure consists of removing the sill plate, removing an existing bolt (View A) located at the inner rocker panel and installing the outboard accessory buckle with the removed bolt. A hole must be cut in the carpet (View A) to gain access to the bolt and for installation of the accessory buckle. Torque bolt to 35-48 N.m (26-35 ft. lb.).
To install the child seat, unlock automatic safety belt from the inboard buckle and allow it to return into lap and shoulder harness retractors.Insert and lock the inboard end of the adapter belt into the inboard buckle (View B) and install adapter belt through or over child seat, per child seat manufacturers instructions. Install outboard end of adapter belt into outboard accessory buckle (View A) and adjust belt to remove any excess slack.
The child seat restraint accessory belt package kit and installation will be on a "No Charge To Owner" basis.
