Some early 1987 Buick Skylark and Somerset models with the standard wiper system, may exhibit subject conidition when using the washer switch. Production correction occurred with VIN breakpoint of HM002650. Depending upon the moment at which the customer releases the washer button while operating the washer spray, there is a potential for the wiper arms to return to the park position before the windshield is entirely wiped clear.
If a customer comments on the above described condition, install the delay style wiper motor cover kit (CD4), part number 22048616. The wiper will still function like a standard two speed system, but will time out after release of the washer button, to wipe the windshield wiper area clear.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
