Some Skylarks with the LD2 Quad-4 engine may experience one or more of the following conditions:
- A "Check Engine" Light - An ECM Failure - Rough Running Engine - An Inoperative Fuel Pump - An Inoperative Alternator - An Inoperative A/C Compressor - White Smoke from the Exhaust
Any of these conditions may be caused by a shorted engine wiring harness (alternator/fuel injector branch) which has rubbed against the alternator and/or is contacting the cooling fins on the alternator pulley (See Figure 1).
To address any of these conditions, repair the harness and install a conduit Tee, Part Number 12020308, to hold the injector leads on the inboard side as shown in Figure 2.
Cars built after VIN JMO23210 had. the conduit tee installed or the production line.
Use applicable labor time.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
