REVISED FORCE BALANCER BOLT TIGHTENING PROCEDURE - SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE
A revised bolt tightening procedure has been developed to provide a more uniform clamp load on the balancer assembly.
The following procedure supersedes the existing service procedure.
Referring to the figure: 1. Snug bolts to 12 N.m. (9 lb. ft.) in the following sequence: 3-1-2-4 2. Following the same sequence, tighten the short bolts to 20 N.m. (15 lb. ft.) plus 60 degrees (one flat of the bolt head) and the long bolts to 15 N.m. (11 lb. ft.) plus 90 degrees (one and a half flats).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
