Some 1988 and 1989 N MOdels with 2.3L (VIN D) engine may exhibit one or more of the following conditions for the first 15 to 60 seconds after a cold start.
Stall when put in gear Tip-in hesitation after immediately put in gear Reduced cold driveability (miss, rough running or backfire)
If any of the above conditions cannot be repaired, following proper service manual diagnosis, it may be necessary to install a new MEM-CAL.
