----------- 1985 - 1991 "N" Buick Skylark
--------- Some owners of 1985-1991 Buick Skylark cars may comment on a condition where rough road conditions or inclines may cause the Instrument Panel (I/P) compartment door to move away from the lamp switch. This may cause the compartment lamp to illuminate, potentially discharging the battery.
---------- 1. Remove I/P compartment assembly following appropriate service manual procedure in SECTION 8C.
2. With the compartment in the closed position, scribe the side rail with a vertical line forward of the guide shown in the illustration.
3. Repeat to the opposite side.
4. Move the compartment to the open position.
5. With locking pliers (approximately 1O mm [3/8 inches) wide), form the side rail outward to form a detent.
6. Repeat to the opposite side.
7. Close and open door to verify acceptable effort.
8. Modify detents as necessary.
9. Reinstall I/P compartment assembly following appropriate service manual procedure in SECTION 8C.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
