THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN REVISED TO ELIMINATE THE INSTALLATION OF THE P/S PRESSURE HOSE CLIP AS A PART OF THE SERVICE PROCEDURE AND REPLACES SERVICE BULLETIN 90-3-10 WHICH MAY BE DISCARDED.
Customers may comment about a shudder or vibration that occurs when turning the steering wheel under the following conditions:
- Vehicle stopped with brake applied (or moving very slowly) - Vehicle in gear - Engine at idle speed
This shudder or moan may occur during parking maneuvers or other situations when the steering wheel is turned while the vehicle is stopped or moving very slowly.
Starting with the following VIN LM017241, Skylarks are equipped with a "tuned" power steering return hose which should reduce or eliminate the shudder condition:
In vehicles built before the above listed breakpoint, the shudder condition may be corrected by installing a "tuned" power steering return hose, Part Number 26023904.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
In a very limited number of cases, the "tuned" return hose (P/N 26023257) may not completely eliminate the shudder condition. In those cases, the shudder condition may be corrected by installing a new power steering pressure hose P/N 26024244. This new pressure hose does NOT require a retention clip. The clip mounted on the P/S pump should be removed and discarded when installing this new hose.
In vehicles built on or following the above listed VIN breakpoint (built with "tuned" returned hose) that still exhibit some power steering shudder, the only repair that should be attempted is the installation of the new pressure hose P/N 26024244 (and removal of the clip from the P/S pump).
On vehicles built before the above listed VIN breakpoint, the return hose replacement should be the first procedure attempted to correct the shudder condition. The new pressure hose should only be installed if the shudder condition is still objectionable AFTER the "tuned" return hose has been installed.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
