BY-PASSING INOP. FUEL DOOR RELEASE MECHANISM - INFO.

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON BYPASSING INOPERATIVE FUEL DOOR RELEASE MECHANISM

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992-93 "N" MODELS AFFECTED: 1992-93 "N" MODELS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO ADD THE 1993 MODEL YEAR.

CONDITION:

--------- When the fuel door release mechanism is inoperative, there is no alternate release mechanism to open the fuel door.

CAUSE:

----- An inoperative fuel door release mechanism could result from several causes:

The cable breaks.

The cable is not attached correctly or becomes detached.

The release handle breaks or does not function.

CORRECTION:

---------- An inoperative door release mechanism can be bypassed using the following procedure:

1. Insert a common tongue depressor in the gap around the fuel filler door opening at the 9:00 o'clock position as shown in Figure 1.

2. Push the tongue depressor into the opening approximately 38 mm (1.5 inches). The fuel door should release and open.
